Dr Tias Muurlink appointed Head of Equine Centre

For the last three years Dr Kate Savage has passionately managed the Equine Centre. Kate has recently made the difficult decision of stepping back as the Head of the Centre to spend more time with her three boys. Kate will continue her clinical role, teaching through practicals and lectures, and assisting with resident training.

Dr Tias Muurlink has been appointed as the new Head of Equine Clinical Services and the Equine Centre. Tias has worked at the Equine Centre for four years. During this time he has successfully undertaken study to become a Fellow of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in Equine Surgery. Prior to joining the Equine Centre, Tias worked in a private equine practice for 17 years and was the founding partner and principal in West Warwick Veterinary Services, a mixed (but predominantly equine) practice in Queensland.

Kate Savage will still be working in the medicine service in the hospital, helping to organise the residents (including their research) and providing back up for Tias on hospital matters and in teaching. Chris Whitton, Sally Church and Cate Steel will be supporting Tias in all these ways too. Under Tias’ direction, the Equine Centre will continue to offer unparalleled intensive care and referral services, as well as dedicated veterinary student and resident teaching and knowledge transfer.
